Rolls Royce Shadow Rear Repair Panel

This is the rear valance repair panel for a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. This panel is manufactured by Healey Bros (Automobile Engineers) Ltd and is priced at £188 including VAT, but excluding postage. See the Healey Bros website (www.healeybros.co.uk) for details.

The panel is the lower rear bodywork section, across the full width of the car and immediately behind the rear bumper, and through which the rear bumper bar supports extend. This panel is new, unused, undamaged.

I bought this panel with a number of other repair panels for my 1970 Silver Shadow in the mistaken belief that it incorporated the two outer rear bottom corner sections of the rear wings, immediately below the rear lights, on each side. What I didn’t realise was that this corner area on the car is a double skinned section, and the rear panel on offer here is the inner single skin section. The Healey Bros website description is not clear on this point, and I had seen so many Silver Shadows with rotten rear valances that I just ordered what was illustrated. When I went to fit the panel and started cutting out rusty metal I found that the inner skin was in fact in reasonable condition on my car and could be patched. So this panel is now surplus to my requirements, its now on offer, hopefully to fund more repair sections!.

Please examine the photograph carefully and see the Healey Bros website to ensure you know exactly what you are buying. I found it difficult to take photographs which would really show the panel features. This panel is 1540mm overall length. It incorporates the cut-outs for the bumper support bars on each side and forms the inner section of panel in the area around the bumper cut-outs. The main centre section of this rear panel, or rear valance as some call it, is a single skinned section. If you measure out a 1540mm distance centrally along the rear valance of your car you will see exactly where this repair panel fits, and where it ends. You will clearly see the two rectangular cut-outs for the bumper bars in the photograph. In the  photograph you can see the stepped or recessed area at each end,  where the double skin of the outer corner sections are located. To repeat again, the outer skin or corner section is not included with this panel.

Metal thickness is approximately 1.0mm. The panel is well manufactured. The other repair panels I bought from Healey Bros were equally well made and fitted well without modification. The panel is finished in a black/very dark brown primer paint which would probably be best removed before final finishing, to get a perfect surface.

This panel, while reasonably light at about 5kgs, is bulky and will be shipped with a timber stiffener to protect against bending, and wrapped in cardboard. You may consider it worthwhile to pay a little extra for insurance.
